Dry Year Update

On March 22, 2021, the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) issued a statement cautioning that continued dry conditions can threaten water supplies, impair critical habitat, reduce recreational opportunities, and create uncertainty for all water users.  Moving forward, if the SWRCB takes action to curtail the District’s access to surface water, customers may face resulting cutbacks to varying degrees per the District’s Water Shortage Contingency Plan.  The District maintains a water shortage contingency plan for use during times of water supply shortages.  The plan serves as a guide for the District in responding to water supply shortages while also maintaining water quality, safe operating conditions, and fire flow capability.

What Customers Can Do

The District is asking everyone to continue using water efficiently, especially outdoors, where most household water use occurs in the Sacramento region.  To help our customers save water, the District offers free Water Efficiency Surveys for both interior and landscape water use.  These surveys help in identifying leaks and offers free water efficient devises including moisture meters and high-efficiency rotary nozzles for compatible sprinkler systems.  If you would like to receive a free Water Efficiency Survey, please call (916) 483-2452 or email us at mail@carmichaelwd.org.
