PRESS RELEASE: July 16, 2025
The Carmichael Water District (CWD) is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded $2,500,000 for the construction of the Ladera Aquifer Storage and Recovery Well Project. These funds were part of the FY 2023 Consolidated Appropriations Act (P.L. 117 – 328) and were Distributed through EPA’s STAG-Drinking Water State Revoloving Fund Program. In FY 2023, Congress appropriated resources for 715 congressionally directed water infrastructure projects (EPA Community Grants) totaling $1.47 billion under the Consolidated Appropriations Act. Representative Ami Bera (Calif. – 6) selected this project as one of the 715 and their support for this project made this funding possible.
“The Ladera ASR Well will be critical for our district,” said Ron Greenwood, President of the Board of Directors. “ This funding will support our efforts to improve water reliability and resiliency for our customers. We sincerely appreciate Representative Bera’s support that has been essential to meet the needs of the communities we serve.”
The Ladera ASR Well project is a new production well that will also have the capability to inject excess surface water into the aquifer for use at a later date. The well will produce approximately 1,200 gallon per minutes and be able to inject approximately half that.
Established in 1916, the Carmichael Water District (CWD) serves approximately 44,000 customers. In the last decade, climate change induced drought conditions and State Water Resources Control Board curtailment orders resulted in a 100% reduction in surface water supply for the district. The district is constructing this well and others to secure residents’ water supply.
