Ensuring the safety of the District's water supply is Carmichael Water District's (CWD) highest priority. Since the tragedy of 9-11, CWD has increased the security of its water system following recommendations from various agencies including the California Office of Emergency Services, the EPA, AWWA, and ACWA. Following their advice to water systems to guard against intrusion, review emergency response plans and increase vigilance the District has taken steps to tighten security.
Although experts say water systems have a low relative likelihood of experiencing terrorist acts, CWD will continue to work with federal, state, and local law enforcement and other organizations to assess potential threats and minimize the risks.
In the event of an emergency or unusual occurrence, CWD would immediately isolate the water source, determine the source of the problem and issue appropriate public notices.
